How They Met: Becky and Ahmed met one memorable evening in the spring of 2007. Becky was out with her roommate celebrating the weekend, and Ahmed happened to be at a friend’s birthday celebration at Lima Lounge in Washington, DC. Ahmed approached Becky to break the ice and introduce one of his friends who found her to be “the most attractive in the place.” Flattered but uninterested in the admirer, Becky tried to maneuver out of the conversation. However, Ahmed found himself interested in Becky and would not give up. Finally, after a lengthy conversation, Becky agreed to give Ahmed her roommates contact information instead of hers. Shortly after that Ahmed and Becky parted ways. A short time later Ahmed finally connected with Becky’s roommate and was able to get Becky’s phone number. After several months of courtship (according to Ahmed) via phone and text, Becky finally agreed to have dinner with Ahmed on a lazy Sunday afternoon/evening. Ironically, still to this day, Becky and Ahmed still disagree about when their first official date was. She believed it was two “friends” having dinner while he was convinced it was a “date”. Well, whatever that Sunday afternoon/evening/dinner/date was supposed to be, it turned into something much more. Five hours later they finally said good night, and began their own love story.
The Proposal: During the annual 4th of July trip to Becky’s family’s cottage, Ahmed flew in a few days before Becky, using a clever cover story. Ahmed said he wanted to take her father golfing for his birthday (which falls two days before July 4th). Ahmed coordinated the golf outing with Becky’s two brothers and her dad. During the outing, he shared the news and asked her father for her hand in marriage. The following day, they traveled up north to join Becky and the rest of her family at the cottage. During their stay, Ahmed waited and waited, searching for the perfect location and perfect moment to propose. On the 3rd of July, Ahmed and Becky spent the entire day down at the water going out on boat rides, tubing and enjoying the downtime away from the city. At sunset, while lying on a hammock overlooking the lake, Ahmed popped the question. With only her father and one brother in the know, it was a complete surprise to Becky and the rest of her family who were enjoying a bonfire close by. Both families were overjoyed at the news, but no one was more excited about the proposal than Becky and Ahmed.
